We had the opportunity to test and review the Fabriq smart speaker.
If you aren’t familiar with the Fabriq, it is a small speaker (WiFi & Bluetooth) that has Amazon Alexa and looks (and sounds) really good.
Below is our complete Fabriq review after putting the device to the ultimate test. We looked at the design, sound quality, battery life, Amazon Alexa commands, and much more.
Fabriq: Pros & Cons
Overall the Fabriq is very compact, durable, has very nice sound quality, and has Amazon Alexa. All of these things are some of the great things about the Fabriq speaker. In addition, the design of this smart speaker is one of the best things about the device. It is great to hold and looks awesome on display. We received many questions about the Fabriq by simply having it on our desk.
We did notice that there is a pretty long startup sound when turning on the device. Every time you turn on the Fabriq you have to listen to some welcome music and message, without the option to skip. We also listed having to press a button to use Amazon Alexa as a con simply because a lot of the value in voice assistants comes from being able to yell at them from across the room.
While these are technically ‘cons’, they aren’t that bad. We found this smart speaker to be great for a desk or counter. If you are planning to use Amazon Alexa a lot, this speaker is most suited to be placed within arms reach.
Fabriq: Design & Setup
The Fabriq smart speaker has been designed extremely well. Although this is a relatively inexpensive speaker, the device has an extremely high-quality look and feel. The overall design of the speaker is one of the best things about this device.
The small smart speaker also comes in some pretty interesting colorways. You are able to choose from either Splat, Jack Plaid, or Earl Grey (see below). As the name suggest, there is actual fabric on the speaker. This, paired with the rubbery base of the speaker, gives the device a nice feel while holding. It also looks really nice on a bookshelf, mantle, or desk.
The Fabriq has an illuminating ring near the bottom of the speaker that has different light settings such as party mode. It also helps you know when Amazon Alexa is listening to your requests by lighting up a whitish-blue color.
The Fabriq setup was a little challenging at first simply because it wouldn’t connect to our network. After a few minutes of trial and error, we were off to the races and ready to start using the Fabriq. The setup requires downloading both the Fabriq (iOS and Android) and Amazon Alexa (iOS and Android) apps in order to get the most out of the smart speaker. Once downloaded you simply follow the steps to get the Fabriq connected and working. After our initial connection, we had no further issues. It would turn on and be connected every time.
