Have you been looking for a solid Fitbit Alta HR review? Well look no further! Below is our complete review of the Fitbit Alta activity tracker. A heart rate monitor, watch, fitness tracker, silent alarm, and more.
In our Fitbit Alta HR (Heart Rate) review we look at everything from size and comfort to features of the Fitbit App. The Fitbit Alta HR is solid wearable with some really good pros and a few cons.
What Is The Fitbit Alta HR
Fitbits are synonymous with steps, steps, steps, but the Alta HR is different.
The Fitbit Alta HR is a wearable activity tracker that will also monitor your heart rate. It is the slimmest heart rate monitor-equipped wristband. This device uses PurePulse® Technology which continuously monitors your heart rate and resting heart rate. Tracking your resting heart rate can be beneficial for monitoring your cardiovascular health over time.
In addition to heart rate, the Fitbit Alta has some pretty sweet features. Sleep tracking, silent alarms, steps, distance travelled, and reminders to move.
The Alta is also one of the slimmest Fitbits you can buy. This alone is a selling point for a lot of people.
See below for a full list of Fitbit Alta HR features and specs:
- Built-In Heart Rate Monitor
- Silent alarm
- On-Screen Notifications (Call, Text, & Calendar)
- Reminders to Move
- Auto-detects workouts like running, elliptical, & biking
- Steps, Calories & Distance
- Auto Sleep Tracking & Sleep Stages
- Cardio Fitness Level
- 7-Day Battery Life
- Interchangeable Bands
Is The Fitbit Alta HR Waterproof?
Many people wonder if the Fitbit Alta HR is waterproof. The simple answer is, no. The Fitbit Alta HR is technically water resistance and is said to be able to handle very sweaty workouts. This is one of the main things we would love to change about Fitbit Alta. It would be awesome if the only time you had to take the device off was to charge it once a week. Instead, you must take your Fitbit Alta HR off everytime you shower or swim.
The instructions also inform you to dry the device off immediately if you get it wet. This is something that is always worrisome, even when simply washing your hands.
Can I take a shower with my Fitbit Alta?
No. Your Fitbit should be removed before swimming or showering. As mentioned above, this is one of the main downsides of this particular Fitbit.
The Good And The Not So Good (Pros & Cons)
Overall, the Fitbit Alta HR is a great device and we have really enjoyed reviewing it over the past few months. It works extremely well and the Fitbit app is easy to use. We have not had any notable problems with this device.
The reminders to move throughout the day can be helpful for staying active (especially if you have a desk job). It is also interesting to monitor your heart rate during different activities. For example, taking a look at the beginning, middle, and end of a workout. You can also watch your heart rate decrease and you begin to get ready for bed and first thing in the morning. It is pretty interesting.
While it is technically the slimmest Fitbit with a heart rate monitor, we did notice bumping the screen into walls and other things while performing daily tasks. While this is one of the slimmest, if not the slimmest, heart rate monitor on the market, it would be nice if it didn’t stick up so far.
Fitbit Alta HR Mobile App
The Fitbit app is available in the App Store, Google Play, and Windows Store. Overall, the app is great. The device syncs in about 5 seconds which gives you access to all sorts of data. A few of our favorite aspects of the app are as follows:
- Easy initial setup and sync
- Easy to navigate dashboard
- Robust data tracking presented in visually appealing charts
- Goal setting (steps, distance, calories burned, and active minutes)
- Awesome challenges (EX: workweek hustle & weekend warrior)
Fitbit Alta HR Vs. Apple Watch
The Fitbit Alta HR and Apple Watch are different devices for different goals.
The Fitbit is great because it is super simple. Sometimes not having options is nice. On the other hand, it would be nice if the Fitbit Alta’s display was a little more customizable.
The band of the Apple Watch is more comfortable than the Fitbit, but that is not to say the Alta’s band is not comfortable. With that being said, the size of the Fitbit is really nice and can be worn in addition to a watch.
